A storm is coming; I can feel it. The air is still and the sky grows dark as low hanging clouds scud in. The birds stop their chirping. They fly to the top of the trees in unison to avoid the ground predators they know approach. How I wish that I could. More DescriptionA storm is coming; I can feel it. The air is still and the sky grows dark as low hanging clouds scud in. The birds stop their chirping. They fly to the top of the trees in unison to avoid the ground predators they know approach. How I wish that I could. As our conservative, comfortable community becomes the "in" place to live, old historic homes are torn down by new owners. They are replaced with "the newest and the best", reflecting the increasing emphasis of money and how many "toys" it can buy. It is in this atmosphere that my husband, having worked for years in the financial industry opens his Options Derivative Fund. He develops a very successful product intended for experienced investors. He hires the most respected accountants and lawyers in the city for this type of business. On October 31, 2001 the market gyrates unpredictably. The news reports that a financial consultant was allowed into a closed announcement meeting of the Treasury. The consultant then alerted his customers, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, known on the street as "Government Sachs" of a change. In less than an hour the small funds like my husbands are wiped out. He never recovers and it is there that my story of the "innocent spouse" begins.
