"Well, this case is much, much, worse than I had originally perceived it to be," Dr. Smith says, suddenly becoming serious. "Well, this case is much, much, worse than I had originally perceived it to be," Dr. Smith says, suddenly becoming serious. My palms, which are already sweaty, start to grow even more clammy and I look down at the floor. I bite my lip out of anxiety and nervousness.
"I am going to make this quick and simple. Like ripping off a band aid," he says, gesturing towards me. "Abigail..."
I look up and meet his eyes.
"Yes?" I answer in a meek voice. I sound like a small child and I hate it. I don't like seeming weak, but I can't help it in this situation.
He takes a deep breath in, like he is preparing himself for the news he doesn't want to give. I see the sullen look in his eyes and know, before he even says anything, that this is not the good announcement I was hoping for.
He gives up on stalling and lets out a heavy sigh. "You may be stuck in that wheelchair for the rest of your life."
Abigail Bennett had the picture-perfect life of a popular sixteen year old. She had a large group of friends, was invited to every party, and did well enough in school, but one fateful night changes everything. After a devastating car accident, Abby has to navigate the struggles of her new life without the support of her former friends by her side. When she returns to school, Abigail meets Elias Smith, a student in her classes that she has never noticed before due to their different social statuses. Elias is peppy, happy, and always has a warm smile on his face, everything Abigail needs to get back to her true self. Will Abby be able to accept the changes in her life, or will she fall back into her old ways?
