More DescriptionSecond edition. The Danville and Pittsylvania Cavalries were two of over two dozen companies that had a heavy enlistment of Pittsylvania County, Virginia men. The two Cavalries rode with JEB Stuart much of the war. Battles included the Seven Days Battle, 2nd Manassas, Sharpsburg, Corbit's Charge, Gettysburg, Yellow Tavern, Petersburg, Five Forks, High Bridge, and Appomattox.
Intended to be local interest, the object of this book is to give the story of the Cavalries through the war, and to offer genealogical detail on the men.
Most of the Pittsylvania County, Virginia men who were in the Cavalry were in these two Companies. New findings revealed Pittsylvania County men enlisted in at least 19 different Companies in the Cavalry, which warranted a second edition. The focus is on soldiers of Southern Virginia, predominately Pittsylvania County and the surrounding counties such as Henry, Franklin, Campbell, and Halifax, and geared towards "Finding the Men in the 1860 Census".
Other books by Robert Snow cover the five Regiments that were in General Lewis A. Armistead's Brigade at Gettysburg, the 9th, 14th, 38th, 53rd and 57th Virginia Infantries. The books combine the story of the regiments with the search for details on the lives of 1600 -1800 men per regiment.
The book "Pittsylvania Artilleries: Finding the Men in the 1860 Census" covers four Artilleries that had large numbers of Pittsylvania County, Virginia men, plus two Artilleries that were associated with Pittsylvania County's Ringgold Artillery that contained men from Campbell County and Richmond, Virginia.
Other works by the author that are of local interest include books covering Pittsylvania County men of the 18th Virginia Infantry and 21st Virginia Infantry.
