The study offers also a substantial contribution to the debate on the fixation of the border between the Middle Ages and Modern Times in Eastern Europe as well as on the position of Eastern Europe in the Europe of the Humanism, Renaissance and Reformation. German description: Markus Osterrieder untersucht am Beispiel des polnisch-litauischen Grossreiches im 16. Jahrhundert Kontinuitaten und Wandlungen in der Wahrnehmung, Beschreibung und Beurteilung von Friedens-, Kriegs- und Feindbildern. Aus der Arbeit, die auch auf den gesamteuropaischen Kontext eingeht und einen mentalitats- und bewusstseinsgeschichtlichen Ansatz verfolgt, lassen sich allgemeine mentale und soziale Muster in Form von entwicklungsbedingten Veranderungen oder anthropologischen Konstanten herleiten. Damit bietet die Untersuchung auch einen wesentlichen Beitrag zu Frage der Festlegung der Epochengrenze zwischen Mittelalter und Neuzeit im osteuropaischen Raum sowie uber die Stellung Osteuropas im Europa des Humanismus, der Renaissance und der Reformation.
