More DescriptionTwenty-two year old Dainty Prescott, last year's debutante, indulged society girl, and privileged TCU coed with twelve traffic camera tickets is having a "sorry, rotten, no-good day." While picking up her gown for the upcoming debutante ball, she inadvertently discovers her longtime boyfriend kissing her boss's young wife at the exclusive store's jewelry counter. Worse, while driving her Porsche with "DBUTNT" personalized license plates, she draws unwanted attention from a disillusioned Fort Worth policeman. What begins as a minor traffic stop quickly ends up in arrest - an imperfect fit for a debutante of The Rubanbleu, where the words "jail" and "Dainty Prescott" should never be mentioned in the same sentence. When Dainty's confidante at the TV station blabs about the boss's wife's new man, the boss makes Dainty a deal: get evidence that'll favor him in divorce proceedings, and he'll give her a paid internship - welcome news since her father cut off her funds - and the Debutante Detective Agency is born. Although Dainty lacks detective skills, she knows just where to turn - and her disastrous first impression with the cop quickly evolves into an unlikely friendship. But not even a crash course from the ace detective can keep her out of harm's way. Easy surveillance cases quickly turn into deadly games. With danger lurking around every corner, it isn't long before the former debutante's caught in the web of a madman who'll kill to get what he wants - and he wants Dainty and her friends dead.Laurie Moore, a sixth-generation Texan, is the author of Constable's Run, Constable's Apprehension, Constable's Wedding, The Lady Godiva Murder, The Wild Orchid Society, Jury Rigged and Woman Strangled-News at Ten.
