"This is an exceptionally well-illustrated text on dermoscopy and is of equal value to clinicians just starting their training in this technique and experienced dermatologists."
Dr Irshad Zaki. Consultant dermatologist and dermatological surgeon.
BOOK DESCRIPTION:
Is it a benign mole or is it a potentially fatal melanoma? This is what concerns both doctor and patient alike. Getting your head around diagnosing the large variety of skin tumours may seem a daunting task. However, familiarity breeds confidence and competence, and this book is lavishly illustrated with hundreds of examples presented with a no-nonsense practical approach. The emphasis is on highlighting the key features of each lesion without the reader being bogged down with unnecessary detail.
In clinical practice, the dermoscopic examination constitutes only one part of the whole assessment, with the dermoscope being used after the history and clinical examination. Necessarily, the dermoscopic features should always be interpreted in the context of the history and clinical findings.
In keeping with this approach, the majority of lesions in this book are shown with the naked-eye, magnified, and dermoscopic views alongside each other. This unique layout allows the dermoscopic details to be readily correlated with the clinical appearances.
The dermoscopic features of benign moles, melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, solar keratosis, seborrhoeic keratosis, dermatofibroma, vascular lesions, and warts, are all included in this book.
In addition, since in some instances there are significant differences between images using non-polarised and polarised dermoscopy, a number of the lesions are shown using both techniques.
This work will be of great benefit to primary care doctors, dermatologists and medical students.
The other books in this Minor Surgery Series will be available soon.
