The sensational preservation allowed an extraordinary insight into the structure of a so-called "central place" of the 11th/12th century AD, which was characterised by a massive fortification, the presence of an aristocratic class, a long-distance trading net, selective craft and a central sanctuary, as well as a completely differing, subsequent late medieval settlement site. German Description: Die jungslawische Handelssiedlung von Parchim-Loddigsee wurde von 1981 bis 1999 vollstandig ausgegraben. Diese einmalige Forschungssituation ermoglichte es, die ca. 6.000 geborgenen Kleinfunde nicht nur typologisch, chronologisch und funktional, sondern auch raumlich, chorologisch und strukturell auszuwerten. Die sensationellen Erhaltungsbedingungen gewahrten einen aussergewohnlichen Einblick in die Struktur eines so genannten "Zentralorts" des 11./12. Jahrhunderts, der sich unter anderem durch eine massive Befestigung, die Anwesenheit einer Adelsschicht, ein weitreichendes Fernhandelsnetz, ausgewahltes Gewerbe und ein zentrales Heiligtum sowie eine vollig andersartige, spatmittelalterliche Nachfolgesiedlung auszeichnete.
