Before he can discover more about the being, Will is killed. But he remains disembodied among mortals on earth, no longer visible to them. He can watch his wife, children, friends and coworkers, but cannot communicate with them. Instead, he finds himself surrounded by ex-mortals.Azzoloft looks like an ex-mortal, and he invites Will to join his group. As Will's discomfort with Azzoloft grows, Will gathers his friends to help stop Azzoloft. But Will learns that an apocalyptic future for humanity isn't just prophesied, it's scientifically programmed.
