English Summary: The question of tensions in medieval "edification" concepts leads to far-reaching problem dimensions of historical pragmatics and aesthetics of religious art. The anthology demonstrates from an interdisciplinary perspective how important it is for the reconstruction of edification in the Middle Ages to relate the history of words and concepts, the history of processes and functions to each other in a differentiated way. Instead of starting from the semantics of modern times, the present volume aims at ambivalent semantization strategies with which very differentiated concepts of edification were designed and implemented in the Middle Ages. Their historical conciseness can only be shown if the field of tension of metaphor and concept is taken into account for the edifying semantics, and for the edifying poetics the competition of various aesthetic-aesthetic calculi. German Description: Die Frage nach Spannungen in mittelalterlichen Erbauungs-Konzepten fuhrt in weitreichende Problemdimensionen der historischen Pragmatik und Asthetik religioser Kunst. Der Sammelband demonstriert aus interdisziplinarer Perspektive, wie wichtig es fur die Rekonstruktion von Erbauung im Mittelalter ist, Wort- und Begriffsgeschichte, Verfahrens- und Funktionsgeschichte jeweils differenziert aufeinander zu beziehen. Statt von der Semantik der Neuzeit auszugehen, die Erbauung reduziert auf Innerlichkeit, diskursive Schlichtheit und reine Positivitat, zielt der vorliegende Band auf ambivalente Semantisierungsstrategien, mit denen im Mittelalter sehr differenzierte Konzepte von Erbauung entworfen und umgesetzt werden. Deren historische Pragnanz kann sich erst zeigen, wenn fur die Erbauungs-Semantiken das Spannungsfeld von Metapher und Begriff mitberucksichtigt wird, fur die Erbauungs-Poetiken die Konkurrenz verschiedener wirkungsasthetischer Kalkule.
