About the Author Arthur E. Baue, M.D. trained in surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital after graduating from Westminster College,
summa cum laude, and Harvard Medical School,
cum laude. He held endowed chairs of surgery at Washington University Medical School and Yale University Medical School, where he was Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Chief of Surgery for Yale-New Haven Hospital. He served as Vice-President of St. Louis University for the Medical Center, with oversight of the Hospital, the Medical School, the School of Nursing and School of Allied Health. Dr. Baue authored or coauthored 11 books on medical topics, was editor of a two-volume text on Cardio-thoracic surgery, had 600 professional articles published, and was editor for ten years of the American Medical Association journal,
The Archives of Surgery. He and his wife, The Reverend Rosemary Dysart Baue, have chaired seminars and published papers on medical ethics. They have three married children and seven grandchildren.
