More DescriptionDolph, the Friendly Dolphin takes the young reader on an adventure with a baby bottlenose dolphin, whose name is Dolph, but his mother Sara affectionately calls him Dolphie. Dolphie and Sara live in a pod, or herd, of dolphins where they all look out for each other. One of the male dolphins in the pod is named Zachary. He helps Sara keep baby Dolph out of trouble. As the reader learns about how intelligent and curious dolphins are, they will also learn about exotic fish that inhabit the coral reefs and dangerous threats to them, which not only includes barracudas and sharks, but the human trash that has polluted the oceans. Also, readers will learn about the Gulf Stream and ocean whirlpools. When dolphins get caught up in the vortex of the fierce churning currents, they are at risk. One day, while Dolphie strayed away from his mother to look at all the pretty fish swimming along the coral reef, he met with several of these dangers. His mother Sara had to put herself between him and the barracudas and a shark swimming nearby. While Zachary was trying to keep Dolph from harm, he was attacked by the shark and severely wounded. Fortunately, there were humans nearby who helped save Zachary's life and got him to the special doctors that he needed. All the other dolphins were right there lending support.Little Dolphie learned a lesson about obeying the rules and staying out of trouble and will go on to his next adventure in a sequel to the story, Dolph Saves the Day! Dolph, the Friendly Dolphin is filled with colorful illustrations and is both educational and entertaining for all ages and especially the 10 to 12 year old reader.
