In that season they won 20 games in a row, and out of 770 teams in Illinois, they were among the top thirteen teams that were undefeated. They had only one loss during their historic regular season. There were 19 seniors attending Ashland high school back in the class of 1957. Gary's mother had graduated from there in 1930. Gary, the author's older brother, was one of the team's guards; the other guard was his best friend Jerry Conner. All of the people included in this book went on to have good lives and careers and there are extensive biographies of each of the players, coaches, and cheerleaders who who were interviewed to gather the true story of the exciting events recorded in this book. For example, Jerry Conner went on to become a sports writer for the Chicago Tribune, working his way through law school and then became a law professor at the University of Minnesota. Right out of high school he and Gary both joined the Navy in 1957. But this book tells the true story of their outstanding and phenominal Dream Season.
