In order to do so, in its classic form it is based on a first or a principle. This volume focuses on the dual terms of unity and plurality, which are pivotal for a principle-oriented metaphysics. Is all reality based on the one, or are plurality and otherness irresolvable? Does the logic of unity merely create a dialectic illusion? Or can unity be seen in a way which justifies plurality? The authors of the articles in this volume cover the main stations of the history of metaphysics, ranging from Parmenides to Levinas.
