However, it has caused serious local, regional and trans-boundary environmental problems. Governments in Asia have implemented a variety of environmental policies to address domestic environmental degradation. However, stringency, pace and enforcement vary by countries. Policies have swung back and forth, reflecting a country's political, economic and social context, as well as effectiveness of the implemented policy instruments.
