Banished from Paradise to the Endimes because she swallowed not the apple but forbidden angel words, Eve wants to speak but can't. A peculiar sort, the quite-quite, the half-half, she falls in love with the Archangel, with men, with women, with hips, with life on Earth, but nothing works: not pink tassels, not roses, not sugar daddies. She takes a job as a bartender in a strip club, moves to mountain caves and spends time wandering in war-zones. Finally, hidden and alone, she stands at the edge of things and sings. Throughout this book of linked sonnets, philosophical, poetic and art historical foundations move as echoic waves against the commonly held but profoundly mistaken 'belief' that Religion and unending War (instruments of societal control) are necessary. Of course, they're not. Perhaps the time has come to stop seeking solace in religion, peace in war. Art, poetry, and human kindness offer us far better connections, creating the compassion necessary for a continued peaceful existence for all on our beautiful planet Earth.Tia Ballantine is a writer and a painter, born in Peru, who has lived here there and everywhere but has most recently moved to the desert near the Mexican border. Her poems have been published in various literary journals and anthologized in Sam Hamill's POETS AGAINST THE WAR and in WINTER GIFTS, published in Scotland by Happenstance Press.
