More Description"Everywhere the Glint of Gold" is a photographic essay presenting the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb by Egyptologist Howard Carter and the treasures contained in it. Quoting Carter, the title pays tribute to the first moments of his experience as he opened the tomb. For six years, Carter, with the financial backing of George Herbert, 5TH Earl of Carnarvon, had been seeking Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings with little success when in November 1922 he had finally found it. Using a chisel that his grandmother had given him for his seventeenth birthday, Carter describes how he opened the tomb's entrance on the twenty-sixth of November. "With trembling hands, I made a tiny breach in the upper left-hand corner [of the entrance]. Widening the hole a little, I inserted the candle and peered in. At first, I could see nothing, the hot air escaping from the chamber causing the candle to flicker. Presently, details of the room emerged slowly from the mist, strange animals, statues, and gold - everywhere the glint of gold."The intention of this photographic essay is to provide a companion piece to the "Tutankhamun: Return of the King" exhibit presented at The IMAG History & Science Center in association with The Origins Museum Institute from October 2022 through March 2023 in celebration of the 100TH anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamun. Born circa 1341 BCE, King Tutankhamun was the 12TH pharaoh of the 18TH Egyptian Dynasty reigning from 1332 to 1323 BCE when he died unexpectedly at age 19.As an homage, "Everywhere the Glint of Gold" presents seven aspects of King Tutankhamun's life and brief reign beginning with portraits of the pharaoh as a youth, teenager, and king; it continues with displays of his funerary and regalia discovered in the tomb along with images of his possessions and adornments; and it concludes with his Egyptian worship and polytheistic beliefs followed by Tutankhamun's cultural and familial origins.
