Author Biography
Duncan, David Douglas (Author)
David Douglas Duncan was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 23, 1916. He graduated from the University of Miami in 1938. After graduation, he became a freelance photographer and photojournalist. During World War II, he was a Marine officer and combat photographer. After the war, he became a staff photographer for Life magazine.

He covered the Korean conflict and the war in Vietnam, which resulted in the books This Is War and I Protest! respectively. His other books included The Kremlin, Self-Portrait: U.S.A., and Sunflowers for Van Gogh. Duncan's friendship with Pablo Picasso resulted in numerous books including The Private World of Pablo Picasso, Picasso's Picassos, Goodbye Picasso, The Silent Studio, Viva Picasso: A Centennial Celebration, 1881-1981, and Picasso and Jacqueline. He died on June 7, 2018 at the age of 102.
