After a painfully slow courtship Dan asks Jenny to marry him and settle to a life on his cattle station in Australia. Jenny will not agree to marry him until she has returned to England to settle family issues with her crippled brother Ralph. Dan's sister, Melanie, is highly suspicious of Jenny's past and her entanglement with her brothers Ralph and Paul. Ralph's horrific injuries were caused by a riding accident and it appears that Jenny was to blame and is consumed by guilt. Finally Dan and Jenny marry but this is not the end of the tangled web of her life with Ralph and Paul. Time after time Jenny is forced to return to England with no explanation until finally Dan follows her and the awful truth is revealed.
