More DescriptionSince the 1990s, much has been researched, studied, and written, about the benefits of forgiveness in relation to physiological health and well-being. Yet, little research has been accomplished thus far related to the specific needs of victims of domestic violence in relation to forgiveness therapy. Both secular and Christian counselors use a one size fits all approach to forgiveness counseling without giving due attention to the eroded self esteem of the victim, the severity level of the transgressions, or the inherent risk in forgiveness therapy of the victim returning to the abusive relationship. Therefore, it is important to review certain facets inherent to cases of domestic violence prior to promoting forgiveness counseling from either a Psychological Reductionist or a Theological Reductionist viewpoint. In conclusion, upon examination of the integrative approach to forgiveness counseling, it is clear that a Christian Psychologist is best suited to provide forgiveness therapy to victims of domestic violence.
