More DescriptionIn celebration of unprecedented freedom.-The Liberty Edition of Footsteps of the Saints recalls the sermon of George W. Truett from the steps of the Capitol in Washington D. C., in 1920, in which he challenges America to "look back to the days of Washington and Jefferson and Madison, and back to the days of our Baptist fathers who have paid such a great price through the long generations that liberty-both civil and religious-might have free course...." His sermon brings to mind many of the heroic efforts of the Saints that eventually led the formers of the new nation to grant unprecedented freedom to its citizens; and the book shows how the seeds for those freedoms were planted many centuries ago, and how they have been watered throughout many centuries until they sprouted, grew tall, and bore magnificent fruit in our country. This version includes the text of THE CHILDREN OF THE PROMISE, the earlier edition.FOOTSTEPS OF THE SAINTS begins with a Prologue that features some essential teachings of the Apostle Paul to the new Christians in Galatia that, if remembered, would have prevented many errors of faith and many doctrinal controversies that were to come. Parts I through IV follow the course of Christianity from the Pentecost to the Pinnacle of prestige and power and through the long night of the dark ages. FOOTSTEPS OF THE SAINTS is based on A MANUAL OF CHURCH HISTORY by A. H. Newman, who taught church history at several universities, including Baylor and Mercer. (see Acknowledgements, inside the book).
