The emphasis is on fundamental physics, linking experiment, theory and applications. In particular, the authors discuss:

• A complementary approach: Maxwell's equations of change and fluid modeling
• Calculation of ion-atom scattering cross sections
• Extension to soft condensed matter, amorphous materials
