More DescriptionOver the period of about twenty-five years quite a few postage stamps, souvenir sheets and other philatelic items with holograms have been issued. The interest among philatelists in collecting such items has increased during the last few years. Initially the interest was created thanks to a few publications about stamps with holograms in philatelic journals. [41] For example, Komiensky's publication [42] is an early important contribution. At a holographic conference, HOLOGRAPHY 2000, in St. Pölten, Austria, in July 2000, the author presented a paper on holograms on stamps with the emphasis on the holographic images on the stamps. [43] A German booklet (three editions, two German and one English version by Schmitt [44-46] which lists postal holographic items is the only philatelic publication on the market before this book. There are some websites on hologram stamps which the reader may be interested to visit [47-49]. Some of the limited-edition holographic stamps are difficult to find, being therefore rather expensive. A missing hologram on a stamp or sheet is, on the other hand, extremely valuable.
