More DescriptionDan Cawthon spent a lifetime contemplating the deep truths of the Catholic faith. As a theologian and university professor in the performing arts, he brought an inspiring and engaging perspective to the age-old topic of the meaning of existence. In the final weeks of his life, Dan was visited by two loving friends who came to say their final farewells. To their great surprise and joy he proposed a project. He handed them a binder of his writings and suggested that they compile them into a book as a parting gift to friends and family. The resulting book, Holy Mud, includes an intriguing photographic essay on the unique architecture and sculpture at UC Berkeley's Newman Hall-Holy Spirit parish, in Berkeley, California, where Dan was a long-time parishioner. This includes photos from the estate of the late sculptor, Stephen de Staebler. In Dan's words, "We humans live on the boundary between heaven and earth." Drawing from Scripture and a wide knowledge of literature, theatre and philosophy, his reflections offer a special blend of insight that draws one toward a richer spiritual journey in life.*Inquiries : send email to holymudbook@gmail.com
