More DescriptionThis endearing tale of youth, friendship, and baseball is set in the late 1960s in Titusville, Florida. Titusville supplied the workforce to Cape Kennedy that landed a man on the moon. Imperial Acres Elementary was full of optimistic, enthusiastic, and confident kids whose proud parents worked at the space center. Little League ball fields full of competitive, yet loving parents sprang into action at the end of the workday. Friday nights and Saturdays epitomized the "American Dream." David Russo was an awkward fourth grader at Imperial Acres who is befriended by Dan and his schoolmates. Inside the classroom and on the ball field, David is constantly harassed by the Pendleton bullies. David's well meaning, doting, and aging parents unintentionally add to his humiliation. However, David's uncle, also a little league coach and a friend of Dan's father, helps David through this turbulent time. Because Dan lives near David and attends the same church, he witnesses David's selfless compassion towards others despite all the abusive bullying. Dan comes to realize that David has a divine inner strength; although, he's not sure where it comes from. David, Dan, and the Pendleton bullies play baseball for the Indian River City League. They play on the same team the Athletics. Coach Anderson who is a close friend of Dan's father chooses Dan to help David with the fundamentals of the game. An unbreakable bond develops between David, Dan, and other underrated players on the team. All their hopes and dreams for a championship trophy comes down to the last game of the season. The Athletics and the Orioles battle it out in front of a record-busting crowd. Family members and spectators are treated to a truly remarkable, bizarre, and heartwarming season finale. After completing the book, the reader will once again feel the power of faith, friends, and family. Buy the book, don't wait to feel groovy.
