Author Biography
Kinder, Chuck (Author)
Chuck Kinder was born Charles Alfonso Kinder II in Montgomery, West Virginia on October 8, 1942. He received a bachelor's degree in 1967 and a master's degree in 1968 from West Virginia University. His master's thesis became his first novel, Snakehunter, which was published in 1973. It got him a creative writing fellowship at Stanford University. Kinder joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh in 1980. He retired in 2014.

His other books included The Silver Ghost, Honeymooners: A Cautionary Tale, and Last Mountain Dancer: Hard-Earned Lessons in Love, Loss, and Honky-Tonk Outlaw Life. He also wrote two collections of poetry entitled All That Yellow and Imagination Motel. He was the inspiration for a character in Michael Chabon's novel Wonder Boys. Kinder died from heart failure on May 3, 2019 at the age of 76.
