Expecting an epic rainfall, Dr. Etienne Basinet, a hydrogeologist working for the United States Navy, implores the Florida governor to cancel the Olympic Games because of the geological instability of the state's underground aquifer. Yet, despite having issued a state of emergency in selected counties, the governor yields to investors' pressure and downplays the peril.As a child, Etienne had been displaced by Hurricane Katrina-he knows better than to tempt impending natural disasters and evacuates his family from Florida. At the same time, his spouse, Dr. Giulia Lombardi, an astrobotanist, and her crew begin their week-long mission aboard the Sandhi Space Station.What Dr. Lombardi and the crew witness through the portal of the Sandhi Space Station defy words, a nightmare many times greater than Hurricane Katrina, exposing the hubris of greed in the age of climate science denial.
