More DescriptionOverflowing with Southern food, religious faith, historic photographs, and fierce family love, this memoir spans the 1895 birth of Isma Moretz Huffman to the current lives of her surviving children and grandchildren. What unfolds is an unvarnished history of daily life in the Catawba River Valley in Western North Carolina. Isma shares the joys and travails of raising a farming family through two World Wars and the Great Depression. She depicts a lifestyle without modern convenience, a way of life unknown to many of us in the early 21st century. This book is an expanded edition of Isma Huffman's memoir. Isma wrote the first two sections of the book in her seventies after suffering a debilitating stroke that partially paralyzed the right side of her body and forced her to write with her left hand. Undaunted, she self-published her Memories Dedicated to My Grandchildren with "Generation One" released for Christmas 1967 and Generation Two" released for Christmas 1972. This updated edition contains a "Generation Three" section where some of her children and grandchildren relate their memories of life on Huffman's Cove. Over 100 historic family photographs bring life to this intimate story.
