More DescriptionIn the future, machines replace humans in almost every field. Chaos ensues, as the jobless masses rebel and war breaks out across the globe. People flee into space and start new civilizations. The founders of Vanguard One hoped that their space colony would be a paradise. They dreamed of a collectivist utopia, a place where everyone was equal and would use the species' newfound freedom from work to grow into intellectuals. They were wrong. The state's socialist programs have failed, people starve, while the government focuses on keeping people from growing their own food. The people in the production areas suffer, while the people in the city live a life of luxury. The elites pretend to be enlightened and virtuous, while they rule with an iron fist. The common folk exist in a state of limbo, a purposeless haze of mechanized deprivation. They work at artificial jobs, keeping an eye on robots. They have no sense of accomplishment or achievement, so they escape into drugs and virtual reality. Anyone who gets on the wrong side of the authorities is forced to make their own way. These exiles do what they can to survive, struggling to stay one step ahead of the law.Alex grew up in the wastes of this failed state. He is a survivor, he is clever; he has developed a love of violence and a distrust of authority. He interacts with criminals and the military, receiving the cybernetic upgrades that modern life has made a necessity; he is directly linked into the net and can command robot troops with his mind.As he experiences life on both sides of the law his loyalties become uncertain and he must pick a side, because a civil war is coming. It is only a matter of time before the oppressed masses revolt against their elite rulers. It will be a real war, it will be brutal, it will be bloody. Cyberpunk meets military science fiction in this subversive tale.
