More DescriptionThe inspired author of this brief epistle is none other than a son of Mary and therefore the younger half brother of our Lord Jesus Christ. He describes himself as the brother of James, and as such belongs to the earthly family of Jesus. The letter has been variously dated between 65 and 85 A.D. but it seems to have been quoted in the extrabiblical works of early church fathers as early as 96 A.D. Jude is a general epistle intended for circulation throughout the churches of the day.Jude clearly quotes from other sources such as the Book of Enoch and the Assumption of Moses, and would seem also to quote from the epistles of Peter. This, however, in no way, damages the credibility, authenticity, or reliability of this epistle. It is a part of the infallible and fully authoritative Word of God, applicable in all respects to us today.Jude focuses upon several themes as follows:* Contending for the faith* False teachers* The sovereignty of God* Salvation* No new prophets are neededNo new prophets are needed because the truth of salvation, that is, the faith has been once delivered to the saints, and it for this pure Word that we, as Christians are to earnestly contend.Several key points must be kept in mind during the study of Jude:- Jude is written to Christians- Ungodly teachers come into the church subtly- Ungodly teachers are usually antinomian andlicentious and teach this behavior to others- Our defense is the Word of Christ and the ApostlesJude is a very short, but very dense epistle which deserves significant attention from earnest students of the Bible. I urge you to use this commentary with your Bible in hand!
