Like hardly any other work of the era, Thomas' text reflects the knowledge, literary taste, and self-image of a late medieval nobleman. This is edition based on the two preserved manuscripts. It makes Le livre du Chevalier errant for the first time accessible in a philologically reliable form and opens it up by a detailed introduction and a comprehensive appendix. German description: Der piemontesische Markgraf Thomas III. von Saluzzo verfasste 1394-1396 einen langen enzyklopadischen Roman in franzosischer Sprache, in dem ein Ritter die drei allegorischen Welten Amors, Fortunas und der Dame Erkenntnis durchstreift. Wie kaum ein anderes Werk des Spatmittelalters spiegelt dieser ausserordentliche Text das Wissen, den literarischen Geschmack und das Selbstverstandnis eines Hochadligen um 1400 wider.
