More DescriptionThis book documents the origins of the Lunda people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and their migratory movements from the prehistoric age to modern day. The account of the sorties detailed in this book is based on oral history of the Lunda people passed down from one generation to the next.
The author of the book, Yav Mutombu Jean Deliege, a native Lunda, studied and documented the oral history of his native people. As a young man, Mr. Deliége studied at a United Methodist boarding school in Mulungwishi (Southern DR Congo) where he pursued his secondary education and graduated with honors. After secondary school, Yav Mutombu Deliége responded to the call of duty from Mwant Yav Mushid Muteb II who called young Lunda people from the city to move to Musumba (the capital of the Lunda Kingdom) and help rebuild their territory. Together with a group of his friends, Mr. Deliége moved to Musumba where he begun to teach high school students. While in Musumba he met and befriended a young American student from Harvard University who later helped him come to America and pursue his higher education. While in America, Mr. Deliege studied mathematics and physics, and he graduated with honors from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. After his studies in America he returned back to his native land to continue with the vision set forth by the late Mwant Yav Mushid Muteb II. Upon his return, he helped build a school (Institute Musumba), one of the very few secondary schools in the Lunda territory.
Later in life, Yav Mutombu Jean Deliege spent his time writing and documenting the oral history of his native Lunda people. Upon his death, he left behind volumes of writings which will be published at the later time.
