More DescriptionThis is the first of two volumes describing the leaf venation patterns of the Euphorbiaceae. The approach in dealing with the venation patterns of this family differs from that of previous volumes. Here, the genera are considered in the framework of a taxonomic system rather than alphabetically. Alphabetic arrangement had been used in the previous volumes to avoid "fitting" venation patterns into niches established by other morphological entities, such as flowers, fruits and woods. With the grasp on leaf venation patterns now established, it seems useful to determine whether or not these patterns can be used to confirm categories established by other criteria or whether they are unique. Tho this end, the venation pattern of the Euphorbiaceae are considered within the classification system proposed by Webster (1975).
