More DescriptionA lavish final report in two fascicules on the excavation of a Roman and Early Christian cemetery at Leptiminus on the east coast of Tunisia, fully illustrated in colour. The cemetery contained an above-ground and a below-ground section. Above ground there were Roman precincts, tomb markers, and graves. Underground rooms carved in the rock contained many polychrome Christian mosaics and epitaphs giving the name and age of the deceased, including several children. The book also includes a complete typology of the pottery of the site, an extended chapter on the glass, and chapters on other finds, including statuettes of Venus which served as grave goods. This is now the most fully-published antique cemetery in the Roman provinces of North Africa.
