More DescriptionIn 1874 Lawrence Barney was born among the early pioneers that settled the Utah Valley. Through his sister, Ray Barney, Lawrence met Esther Lavina Beal. Lawrence was fourteen years older than Esther. Her father, Newel Knight Beal, was the bishop and thought Lawrence was too old for Esther. Esther did not mind the age difference, but she did request Lawrence stop riding broncos in the rodeo. Esther's father told Lawrence that if Lawrence went on a mission he could marry Esther. Lawrence took up the challenge and served an honorable full time mission in Illinois. After returning from his mission, Lawrence and Esther were married in the Manti, Utah Temple and raised a family of their own.
