How children born with severe hearing loss map phonological structures of their language with its orthography is under researched in relation to Indian languages. The research described in this monograph addresses the question of how to assess and train phonological and orthographic awareness in Telugu children with prelingual hearing impairment. A screening test of linguistic awareness and a set of fifty six lessons to enhance linguistic awareness in Telugu have been developed by the author.
