More DescriptionOurs was not a normal childhood. It was atypical in that all of the adults who were supposed to be protecting us, either perpetrated or enabled abuse and violence. We children of the Little House on Neeley Avenue entered adulthood remembering mostly the fear and pain. The sweet memories of happy times were overshadowed by things we have struggled to move past.
For me, it took 60 years and the death of every adult who failed to keep me safe as a child. Forgiveness has enabled the more pleasant memories to return. But forgiveness wasn't complete as long as there was one person continuing the abuse.
This book records many of those happy times which were long buried. I offer these stories not to condemn anyone, but as a testament to how resilient children can be in oppressive circumstances. I hope my siblings will enjoy our better memories.
