More DescriptionThe "Office of the Passion of the Lord" is a devotional Office written by St. Francis of Assisi.
It consists of 15 "psalms" which are composites of various verses of the Psalms, mostly from the Davidic psalms but also from other parts of Sacred Scripture and pious sentiment.
This prayer has been used for centuries by members of the Franciscan family, and is an approved substitute for the Liturgy of the Hours for members of the Secular Franciscan Order who are obliged to join in liturgical prayer according to the Rule.
The Little Office of the Passion refers to a devotional office created by Francis of Assisi as a complement to the Divine Office of the Roman Catholic Church. The Little Office of the Passion is organized in a way reminiscent of the Liturgy of the Hours.
It begins with the Our Father followed by the Glory Be. After these, a series of praises composed by Francis of Assisi is recited. Then the appropriate psalm is read, framed by an antiphon to the Blessed Virgin Mary also composed by Francis. After the psalm is read and the antiphon is repeated, a dismissal concludes the Office.
