My work documents life during the initial UK lockdown. A significant moment in all of our lives. I photographed people within the boundaries of their homes. In following this practice, I placed restrictions on myself as a photographer in line of that with government regulation. I display these photographs alongside several personal photographs that lift the work away from becoming a collection of simple portraits, transcending the usual limitations of s family snapshot.
More DescriptionMy work documents life during the initial UK lockdown.
When looking at the photographs we are presented with a chronological narrative through the initial lockdown, when looking closer, we are also presented with many insights into modern British family life. Aside from the visual information, the addition of quotations, gathered from my subjects, deliver a powerful insight into family make up and bring variety to the project.
"Ashley has carried out his work in an exemplary fashion, using the tools of his profession to stimulate both thought and memory, the two simplest and yet equally sophisticated tools at the viewer's disposal for living life and for making some sense of our lot." - Ian Macdonald
