This is a book with pictures. And it is a book about looking, looking harder. No quick glances or thumb throughs. It is medicine for a modern illness - visual overload. More DescriptionThis is a book with pictures. And it is a book about looking, looking harder. No quick glances or thumb throughs. It is medicine for a modern illness - visual overload. We are bombarded with pixels, videos, messages and pages. In normal times, it is difficult to make any sense of them. Now, with all the crisis reporting, it is worse. Every media source is competing to provide more elaborate graphs, tables, animations, bubble maps, statistics and on-location footage. More data, less useful information. To cope, we have become poorer at absorbing, seeing details. Volume rules, attention dulled, content lost. What is explored here is different. Think of it as eye and brain exercise. Getting reacquainted with what they were meant to do. Slower, more focused, thoughtful and singular. Inspired by Where's Waldo, art books, old magazine covers and how my Dad used to study. Images that are engaging, rich and meaningful. They speak to social connections, family relationships, places, mindfulness, art and concepts that have taken root in our minds. It is easier to take a picture than it is to say what is trapped in one. But it is worth the effort.
