Hamilton, Dorothy Cann (Author)
Dorothy Cann Hamilton was born in Manhattan, New York on August 25, 1949. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in England. She joined the Peace Corps and taught English in Thailand for three years. She worked as a receptionist for her father's trade school Apex Technical School to pay off student loans. She became the financial aid director and received a master's degree in business administration from New York University.

In 1980, she toured European vocational schools as a board member of the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools and visited a training program for chefs in Paris. In 1984, she founded the French Culinary Institute. She was the host of Chef's Story, a PBS television and Heritage Radio Network series that profiled chefs. She wrote several books including Love What You Do: Building a Career in the Culinary Industry. In 2015, she received the Legion of Honor from the French government for promoting French cuisine in the United States. She died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on September 16, 2016 at the age of 67.
