More DescriptionMasters of Music Vol 21 PopBy Ian HartleyCuriously, pop music charts as such didn't existuntil 1952, when the first Top Twenty was recorded. It came at an interesting time, coinciding with theinvention of teenagers. Previously there'd been norecognized transitional period between childhoodand adulthood. Now, teens began to find their music- in skiffle and in folk music.Rock'n'roll brought much more of that, and ElvisPresley became a global star, the biggest of the latefifties and early sixties. But by 1963 he found himselfsupplanted by the Beatles, who revolutionised pop bywriting their own material, instigating a fashion thatremains undiminished. The Beatles set the standardfor pop music - Beatlesque is a standard descriptiveadjective. They dominated the charts in Britain andAmerica until their break-up in 1970.The Beatles influenced a generation - more than one, really - with their melodies and harmonies, and thatwas apparent in the seventies, when pop careenedthrough several styles, from the glam rock of T. Rexto the raw fire of punk. But the biggest pop star toemerge from the period was a singer and pianist,Elton John, whose popularity has remained constant.Since 2000 pop music has relied mostly onestablished talent. Several younger artists havecome and gone and new styles have briefly emerged, but nothing appears to have gained a major footholdbesides modern R&B, which owes little to its soulfulpredecessor, but a lot to hip-hop - which has becomea pop style in itself.Justin BieberRicky Martin P!nk Rihanna Shakira Britney Spears Robbie Williams Fashion Industry Broadcast's "MASTERS OF MUSIC"is a series:Masters of Music - Vol 14 Rock Masters of Music - Vol 15 Rock Masters of Music - Vol 16 Rock Masters of Music - Vol 17 Rock Masters of Music - Vol 18 PopMasters of Music - Vol 19 PopMasters of Music - Vol 20 PopMasters of Music - Vol 21 PopMasters of Music - Vol 22 LegendsMasters of Music - Vol 23 LegendsMasters of Music - Vol 24 LegendsMasters of Music - Vol 25 LegendsMasters of Music - Vol 26 RNBMasters of Music - Vol 27 PunkMasters of Music - Vol 28 Hip HopMasters of Music - Vol 29 JazzMasters of Music - Vol 30 DanceFashion Industry Broadcast is the number one destination on the web for the latest in music, fashion, style, creative arts, creative media, models, celebrity biographies and much more.
