No one on the surface of the planet can see just how bleak the full picture looks because they can't see into space.Hrwang commanders, orbiting in gargantuan ships, are preparing for a ground assault by awakening a massive army from its 2 1/2-year slumber through interstellar space.Two humans have interacted directly with the Hrwang without dying. Stanley Russell believes he can turn around the conflict after accepting an ambassadorship from the Hrwang commander. Russell's second-in-command, Irina Samovitch, clearly doesn't share his optimism or visions of glory.
