More DescriptionMARGARET COGSWELL River Fugues is a compilation of essays and photo documentation covering 16 years of the artist's research-based mixed-media art installations and drawings commissioned and exhibited throughout the United States and internationally. Working much like a documentary filmmaker, Cogswell explores the regional history of a river though video and narratives collected from people whose lives are impacted by the river. Using the musical structure of the fugue, these videos are edited and woven into installations comprised of multiple projections and sculptural components. Often poignant elegies, these works reflect the complex and changing relationship of a society to its industries and rivers, and contribute, as an artistic voice, to a larger conversation addressing issues surrounding water.
