More Description
The main objective of the entire maintenance agenda in any company is to guarantee and increase the reliability and availability of equipment, with reduction of waste, preservation of equipment, and tactical and strategic support for maintenance activities.
For a number of reasons, fuel is one of the biggest villains in diesel engines.
First of all, you must keep the fuel tank full at all times to prevent or minimize microbial growth. And when it comes to refueling, you should always opt for reliable gas stations that sell nautical diesel. Then use good water separating pre-filter and fuel preservative additives. If you see water, drain and start the engine again. If it shows up a second time, your fuel is bad or contaminated.
In most diesel engines, it is critical for the owner to know how to "bleed" the engine if air enters the fuel system and turns it off. Locate and loosen the bleed screw (there should be a clear hose connected to it) and run it with the hand pump until diesel comes out, without the air bubbles. If that doesn't work, loosen the injection tubing at the fuel nozzles to make the air bubbles escape there until there is a steady flow of fuel.
Always try to collect this diesel oil before it falls into the basement. If that's not possible and it leaks, a way to eliminate the smell: dishwashing detergent, preferably with citrus scents!
Finally, Know your systems, learn how they work, and do or supervise preventive maintenance on your boat yourself. If you're taking something apart, take pictures step-by-step with your cell phone to remember how to assemble it later!
