Cohen, Tom (Author)
J. Hillis Miller, Jr. (born March 5, 1928) is an American literary critic. He was born in Newport News, Virginia and graduated from Oberlin College. He also went on to earn a master's degree from Harvard University. From 1952 to 1972, Miller taught at Johns Hopkins University.

Miller's works include The Disappearance of God: Five Nineteenth-Century Writers; The Form of Victorian Fiction: Thackeray, Dickens, Trollope, George Eliot, Meredith, and Hardy; Versions of Pygmalion; Hawthorne & History: Defacing It; Literature as Conduct: Speech Acts in Henry James; The Conflagration of Community: Fiction Before and After Auschwitz, and Reading for Our Time: Adam Bede and Middlemarch Revisited.
