More DescriptionMathematical concepts must be accessible to everyone who wishes to learn. The concepts covered in this book are designed specifically for those learners who need to be shown an alternative approach to mathematics in simple, everyday language. The techniques in Math That Makes Sense are tried and true methods that help non-traditional learners succeed in acquiring mathematical skills and knowledge. Non-traditional learners include: a student wishing to re-engage in learning, a student who may have missed years of schooling. a parent who would like a better understanding of math concepts in order to help her children with homework, an adult with the goal to pass the GED math test, a student who has experienced math anxiety, a desperate student who needs help with math now, a student who needs a more concrete explanation of math concepts, as well as advanced students who would like to practice mathematical concepts from a completely different viewpoint. The book begins with the two basic mathematical concepts that we deal with the most, money and time. Each subsequent mathematical concept builds on real-life examples with concepts explained using common language. Topics in the first book of this series include mathematical properties, order of operations, combining like terms, the coordinate plane, graphing lines, solving equations, fractions, proportions, geometry, area, number sets and test taking skills. These topics were chosen for Book One based on the most frequently asked questions from students who require alternative approaches to learning mathematics. Ms. Newmyer completed her undergraduate education with a double major in Mathematics and Social Studies with an emphasis in Secondary Education from Adams State University in the year 2000. She also completed her Graduate Degree in Mathematics from the University of Houston in 2010. Ms. Newmyer has been teaching mathematics at the Secondary level since 2000.
