Shoppers stop by the window of Mattie's hat shop, pointing and laughing, but no one ever comes in to buy.  So the hats stage a rebellion, letting Mattie know that they want things plain and simple. But when Mattie sadly complies, people stop smiling when they look in the window, and eventually they come in to ask about the interesting hats that used to be there.  Finally encouraged, Mattie decides to let the hats decorate themselves and soon everyone is happy.
