After the end of the Schmalkaldic War, the reorganization of the territories began. 233 letters show the many uncertainties involved in the altered political situation as well as Melanchthon's state of mind as he received many offers from other places but still felt home was where he could be with his friends. Melanchthon was much sought after as a conversation partner when it came to planning the university system. He took part in negotiations regarding the foundation of a university in Jena but was then summoned to Wittenberg where deliberations were in progress regarding the reopening of the university. He was lonely there without his friends, since he missed being able to exchange ideas with his colleagues. However the pressure put on him to write his Dialectics kept him there. He anxiously monitored the incipient Diet of Augsburg. Melanchthon was so worried that at the end of the year he dreamed that the Elector Maurice wanted to reduce Wittenberg to rubble. German description: Nach dem Ende des Schmalkaldischen Krieges beginnt die Neuordnung der Territorien. 233 Briefe zeigen die vielen Unwagbarkeiten, die die veranderte politische Lage mit sich brachte, aber auch die Gefuhlslage des Gelehrten, der viele Angebote von ausserhalb bekommt, seine Heimat aber dort sieht, wo er mit seinen Freunden zusammen sein kann. Melanchthon ist ein gefragter Gesprachspartner bei der Planung des Universitatswesens. Er ist an Verhandlungen uber die Grundung einer Universitat in Jena beteiligt, wird dann aber nach Wittenberg gerufen, wo uber die Wiedereroffnung der dortigen Universitat beraten wird. Ohne seine Freunde fuhlt er sich dort einsam, denn der kollegiale Austausch fehlt ihm; aber der Druck seiner Dialektik halt ihn dort fest. Bange blickt er auf den beginnenden Reichstag in Augsburg. Melanchthons Sorgen sind so gross, dass er noch am Ende des Jahres traumt, Kurfurst Moritz wolle Wittenberg in Trummer legen.
