Within theatre, the concept of melodrama can be regarded as a form of the production of meaning that functions with heightened feelings, moral polarization, antithetical characterization, rhetorical exaggeration and inter-textual and inter-medial games. The contributors to this volume examine the pledge inherent in the meaning of the compound 'melos' - song and 'drama' - action, the aesthetic within the equality of body language, music and poetry, as well as a democratic interpretation of the world and of human existence for all, by means of an interdisciplinary dialogue between German, English/American studies, Romance Studies, drama, music and film studies German description: Abgelost von einem bestimmten Kunstgenre wird das Melodramatische als moderne kulturelle Praxis der Weltwahrnehmung gefasst, die auf hochste Emotionalitat verweist und zur Ausdrucksform eines Moralisch-Okkulten wird.
