Todd Johnson was born and raised in North Carolina. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and Yale. He then began his career as a session singer and teacher in New York City. He received a Tony Award nomination as a producer of 'The Color Purple' on Broadway. His next accomplishment was writing his first novel "The Sweet By and By" which received the 2010 Connecticut Book Award. The novel was also named a People "Great Reads for Your Book Club" pick.
